Cheryl:

Thank you for enlightening us. I'm glad to see that Uncle Sam hasn't
completely gone off his rocker. However, you should know that this rumor is
making the rounds and in some fairly reputable venues, too.

I *do* know that some insurers are becoming scared silly of strip-trading on
sites like eBay (a gentleman at BioSense told me this) and so are beginning
to insist that all st strips be accounted for. Big Brother rises again!

no they are not, you need to make sure you doctor indicates how many times a
day you are testing, some medicare suppliers as well as your doctor will ask
to see from time to time that you are testing more then 3 times a day for
medicare to continue to pay for more than 3 times a day.

A lot of people on this list have no idea. Since I still work as a medical
insurance biller part time to pay for my bills with the travel agency, that
is how medicare works, just keep track of how many times a day you are doing
it, and your numbes.

Really, some people don't know what they are talking about.

Yup! That's about the size of it, at least according to rumors coming my
way. Pretty crappy logic, I should say! It's not a policy calculated to
encourage good diabetic care. There are those who will say: "What do you
expect of Obama-care" but such political rhetoric would be misplaced. IMO
private insurers are becoming just as paternalistic. For years, I've argued
with meter manufacturers, trying to get them to allow the user to delete
specific records in the interest of maintaining the accuracy of their
testing results when some tests are invalid. Yet said manufacturers are
reluctant to allow this, not only because they fear users will fudge their
results but also because insurers are beginning to insist upon strict
accountability for strip usage in the face of strip-trading on eBay and
Craig's List.

How diabetes care-givers can prattle on about the necessity for patients
to manage their own care while allowing such nonsense is beyond my ken!
