[Diabetes-talk] Transplant: artifical pancrease

Hi Denise,
Oh, so much better! Now, beginning my third year, I don't notice any effect from the immune suppressants. I did have difficulty in the beginning, but many of those drugs have been eliminated. I have not caught anything either. I think one cold in over two years is not bad!
No lows and no highs! I do get some lows when I am tandem bike riding, but I have worked that out too. I mostly don't eat sweets and still follow a healthy diabetic diet. I do eat them occasionally and it is hard not to feel a bit guilty! I went on a retreat during the summer and ate lots of desserts. I told my doctor when I returned and he was very happy. Now you might understand my confused mind. After 52 years of doctors being upset with me for not following a good diabetic plan and now he was happy about my eating desserts? Well, the whole staff was quite pleased and they said that is exactly what they wanted to hear and that I had made their day!
I am very grateful that all has gone so well and we hope they get FDA approval soon so that the rest of you might have such a cure.
Sally
