Seems like something like "pen friend" or similar device could be used.
Barring that, have the info sent from the manufacturer to a service like
http://www.braille.org to send out the serial number in Braille-or recorded
method, as appropriate!
The most challenging thing for me, as a totally blind person, is to get
serial numbers read.
