Once I have a friend read a serial number for me, I write it down so I
no longer require assistance for reading such info with my technology.

One thing I have done to obtain my Prodigy's serial number is to use a
scanner with OCR. I lay the meter with the buttons up on the scanner. I
think that I might have gotten away with scanning just the battery case
once, but I'm not sure. Openbook will read the number with lots of other

characters. Kurzweil might be better. Perhaps some of the cameras such
as
the Pearl or KNFB reader would work too.
Hope this helps.
