[Diabetes-talk] Prodigy Voice comments

Yup, I agree with you. But if you think about it, insurance of whatever kind
is, in essence, a gamble by the insurance company that sufficient of its
contributors or clients will stay healthy enough (or alive or not suffer
damages to property) such that it takes in more money than it spends. In the
case of health insurance, if you're healthy or don't have a chronic
condition, the insurance company wins. If you have a chronic condition or
aren't healthy, you win, assuming the insurance company is honorable. That's
why we have state insurance commissioners.

Mike

Well, I know it's not really about proving diabetes, though it certainly
feels this way. We are just the patients wanting our supplies and
products, but it often feels like we have to wait and fight and deal
with a bureaucracy that gives little thought to the actual consumers of
said supplies and products.

Actually, they're not requiring you to "prove" that you have diabetes
although it may seem like it at times. What they're *really* worried
about is people selling strips the insurance companies partially payed
for. I think it's rather silly myself and so far Regence Blue Cross
hasn't required this. Knock on artificial wood!

Denise,

I understand. I also test 12 to 15 times a day, which my doctor fully
supports, and so far, I haven't had an issue with receiving test strips,
but these things are always in the back of my mind. I find it
interesting, and I'm sure I don't fully understand the process, that
type 1 diabetics are required to turn A1-C results over to insurance
companies "proving" that we are in deed diabetic as though type 1 can
come and go as it pleases. Ha-ha!

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter

It goes beyond just a talking meter. I test around 15 times a
day---health reasons to have to be so strict --prescribed by doctor and
A1C to show proof--finally---and my health insurance said twice was good
enough...months of fighting with them and they changed it to 4 times a
day was good enough coverage....months more and finally they agreed to 8
times a day---with tons of out of pocket expense to cover myself---not
withstanding the $800 a month fee I pay them to cover me. As you know,
test strips cost a fortune. They are telling us what we should be doing.
Isn't THAT ironic! Denise
