[Diabetes-talk] Snap Pump contraindications

Anybody remember the old $500 not so Accu-chek Voicemate? I was going
through some old cassette tapes and found the instructions. Mind you, the
instructions with braille labels on the cassette. And there it was, on side
2 of the tape. This should not be used by totally blind persons without the
assistance of someone sighted.
Wait till the lawyers find out I chop my vegetables with a kitchen knife!
Okay, sarcasm over, but not completely. What counts in the end is what
happens between us as customers and the people who support us. Back in 1977
I had a lot of trouble trying to purchase a music typewriter from a company
in Colorado because, according to them, the Australian government bought one
for a blind person, who was very disappointed because he couldn't figure out
how to use it and was threatening to sue. I had quite a battle till I
convinced them that I'd done my homework, understood the device and was
prepared to do the necessary studying and work-arounds to make it work. In
the end, I had a great relationship with this company and they went on to
sell many more to other blind people, sending along a study guide which I'd
written.
The thing with something like an insulin pump is that no matter who gets
one, everyone goes through training. It will be pretty obvious at that level
whether or not any one of us is managing to work around the limitations and
difficulties. The T-slim people already told me that they'd let me get the
pump and then return it if we really couldn't make it work. I don't know.
Sometimes there's a bottom up approach that can get us started.
So whether it's an insulin pen, a meter or a pump, I know what's out there
for good diabetes management. I can't help feeling like my quality of life,
if not life itself is at steak here. I'm creative. I'm kind. But I'm also
determined and very persistent. Thanks for listening.
Veronica

I agree. Incidentally, the only insulin pen manufacturer that doesn't hav
warnings on its packaging is Sanofi-Aventis.

Hi everyone! You should also know the Medtronic pump say the same things
right on their brochures and there are plenty of people using their pumps
who are on this list. That will not stop me. No way. I will call and see
what happens. I think this language is just written to protect them from
legal non-existing things that someone thinks may happen. Oh love that
grammar, eh? Stay tuned. Veronica
