Hi Dar, and all,

Too young for insulin? Tell your doctor a few 
people want to toss his stethascope at him for 
that comment -- silly doctor. Honestly, I'd love 
to hear your doc's thoughts on what s/he has read 
to bring them to such a line of thinking?

I'm 42, and been on insulin for 32 years. The only 
ill-effects I've had or have are from the years 
where I tried pretending I didn't have Diabetes --  
which were my teens, pretty much. Anyway, I hike 
regularly, ride tandems, rollerblade, all that 
silly stuff. The only side-effect from years of 
insulin has been the calcium deposits building up 
over time, on my bone joints. I don't stretch at 
all regularly, and if I did, those wouldn't even 
hinder me as they sometimes do, I believe. But 
hey, I'm lazy too. I say I'm an OCD personality in 
a Procrastinator's body. Anyway, the years of 
insulin and calcium deposits have made me less 
flexible. That's about it, though, far as I -- and 
my docs -- can tell.

The docs always say something like, "No, your 
kidneys look fine." And I always respond, slightly 
incredulously, "Fine for anyone, or fine for a 
32-year Diabetic?" They always say, "Fine for 
anyone." Again, though, I still find that slightly 
hard to grasp. But it is what it is. ;-)

Also, I haven't noticed a jump in my BG levels 
since moving to Colorado last summer. I'm now even 
higher up than the Mile High City of Denver. The 
northern end of Colorado Springs, and into 
Monument, is right around 7000 feet. Denver's only 
5280. ;-)

I'm proud to be sixty as I shared with him.
Not understanding why age is the matter.
I shared that I was told folks have more energy on 
the insulin than
they did on the pill.
Just some thoughts.
