Greg, but the problem is bigger than that. The problem is how easily it is
to get an ironious reading if there really isn't enough blood in the strip.
If one doesn't completely fill that square window, sorry. It's all over. And
in the case of the Advantage, there were sensors at 3:00 and 9:00, but not
at 6:00 or 12:00. So if we managed to get a drop of blood that went from
3:00 to 9:00, but not all the way from top to bottom, the result could be
way way off! Putting in four sensors would have completely solved the
problem. So if there was enough blood on the strip, I'm sure that the
results were likely no worse than any other meter. Many of today's meters,
if they beep at all for the presence of blood, will beep as soon as blood
starts getting schlurped up into the strip, assuming that we will finish the
job and eyeball the end result. But if the amount of blood doesn't
completely fill the chamber, very misleading number again. That's really
true with the Prodigy I'm sorry to say. Meters are inaccurate enough as it
is, without adding the extra complications that companies don't properly
address the need to really monitor the amount of blood that goes into the
strip. Till they do, I'm sticking with my FreeStyle. True, can't set the
date and time myself. True, I'm a bit worried about the old Braille 'n speak
I'm using to read the results with, but for now, at least I can trust the
number I get and that's the most important thing to me. It doesn't beep or
start the test until it verifies that there's enough blood there to do a
test. Duh!

I did a lot of web work for a Home Medical Equipment company a couple of
years ago. Most the meters on the market are disappointing at best. I took a
dozen random samples of each of twenty vendor meter models. 

I did five sticks every four hours for a week with each meter. The results
between the meters were off as much as 20% from each other. Worse many gave
inconsistent results. I found the Acucheck Aviva gave very consistent
results over the five sticks. So far I have not heard when we can expect a
production model based on the Aviva or a newer meter. 

Yes, my fingers were quite soar after the testing. 

In general it gave results that were surprising consistent with my blood
work. The blood work comparisons and corresponding meter sticks were all
done fasting once a month for a four months.
