[Diabetes-talk] whole lemons

Not to burst your bubble, but whenever I see something like this being
passed around, I check it out on Snopes.com. They're a great site for
finding out the truth about things. You can read for yourself about the
studies (by reputable universities, etc.) going on with lemons right now,
some involving cancer, but below is the final paragraph from snopes.com. My
trigger to look there about this piece was that it claims this is a known
fact, but it's being hidden from the general public. That statement alone
is a real trigger for knowing it's not scientific.

"... the best that can be said at this point is that citrus fruits may
potentially harbor anti-cancer properties that could help ward off cancer.
No reputable scientific or medical studies have reported that lemons have
been found to be a "proven remedy against cancers of all types," nor has any
of the (conveniently unnamed) "world's largest drug manufacturers" reported
discovering that lemons are "10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy" and
that their ingestion can "destroy malignant [cancer] cells." All of those
claims are hyperbole and exaggeration not supported by facts."

Forgive me, but as I am a scientist, I like to keep as many of these pieces
of false information as possible out of the mainstream.

Sandi
