[Diabetes-talk] Prosthesis (was Whole Lemons)

Actually, he wasn't too bad. He was a kind of hard-boiled guy -- "just the
facts, ma'am" -- and I asked him when I should have it removed from a
medical standpoint. I'd been having trouble with the cornea scratching and
healing from the internal breakdown. The scratches could be healed with some
cream I put on the cornea. His answer was that when it bothered me enough
(in other words, it was *my* decision), he'd take the eye out. Anyway, he
was as good as his word: when I said I'd had enough, he took the eye out the
next week. Felt so much better I could have gone back to work that afternoon
but stayed home as his staff recommended.

I hope your doctor was quicker to pull the trigger on removing the eye than
mine was. Seven weeks I'd not wish on anyone.

My left eye broke down like that.

I had very much the same experience. I thought I had some usable vision in
my right eye -- to the point that my eye doctor thought there might be hope
of fixing the lens and cornea surgically. Six months later, the eye broke
down internally and had to be removed. Nothing changed. Agree with the
quality of the prosthesis -- it's fooled a couple of eye doctors. That's
really funny when the guy starts to examine it with the flashlight.

You know, growing up I used to think I had light perception. Well, because I
could tell when the sun was out and sometimes I could tell when lights were
left on. Then at age 26, I had both eyes removed. Surprise! Nothing changed.
I gather the skin on our faces does something in the way of light detection
as well. But it's amazing what we learn sometimes, isn't it. But I do
remember the routine of having to wear sun glasses. And today's prosthetic
eyes are wonderful.

I love cinnamon anyway.
Just wonderful stuff.
