[Diabetes-talk] victoza

Not really. It seemed to make sense in the beginning that fats, any fats,
increased people's fatness. But actually, over time, the fat in our diets
has decreased from 40% to 30%, even though, at the same time, we (as a
population) continue to gain weight. What has risen over time is our
consumption of carbohydrates, which have gone from about 40-45% of our diets
to 55-60%. And because of the huge increase in intake of processed,
manufactured foods, mostly made from white flour, white sugar, and white
shortening, it seems most likely to me these are the foods that are making
us fatter. "Fat Chance" by Dr. Robert Lustig, hypothesizes the issue is
neither fat nor carbohydrate individually, but the almost universal
combination of fat and carbohydrate--particularly white flour and sugar.
That's why my best advice to people who want to be healthy, with or without
diabetes is, eat fresh, whole foods. That doesn't mean eat a head of
lettuce or a whole cow. But it does mean that we should be eating foods
that are grown and raised, not foods that are created in a factory and
loaded with fat, sugar and salt!

Sandi
