Hi Mike,
I think people who lose their sight later may not be used to thinking about organizing things.
Some people may not have the Pen Friend either.
The Envision America Reading device is free. The labels are provided free by the Pharmacy.

personally I like Braille labels but not everyone can use these.
I have noticed that some people seem to have trouble feeling the shapes of little dots. Setting things up alphabetically or in little slots in a box might also be helpful.
Of course many fxs have shapes or different sizes which can help unless your pharmacy changes the shape or size of a pill.
Part of helping people who lose vision is helping them with little tricks.
Isn't it great that the NFB can help xs' members and others in local communities?
