Dear Bridget,

I have been President of the DAN of California for eight years. I have
always called the nearest large hospital to the hotel where the convention
is to be held. I ask for the Diabetes Education Department. I then ask for
a speaker to talk to us during our luncheon meeting each year. Some have
been nurse educators and last year I did something different by having a
psychologist speak about why we eat and when. We usually have several NFBC
members attend who do not have diabetes so, I vary the topic so they do not
feel left out.

It is very easy to start a new Diabetes Action Network in your state. All
you need are five NFB of Nebraska members who would like to serve on the
board and then contact your State President to ask for the procedures.

Good luck!

Warmly, Joy
