[Diabetes-talk] Solo meter??

Hi. Bill Lewis here. I found a system several years ago to better detect
the blood sample on my finger. Here's how:

Pick your finger to be tested--say, the middle finger. Place your thumb
from that hand on a selected spot on the pad of the finger. Hold the thumb
there.

Now take the thingamajig with the needle and jab the finger pad for a blood
sample. Make the spot you selected right next to your thumbnail. Then set
the needle thingamajig aside and pick up your meter with the test strip
inserted and the meter saying to apply the blood to the test strip.

Now hold the meter in a position so you can touch the strip tip to the skin
right next to the thumbnail. Start very slowly sliding the strip away from
the thumbnail and over the spot you felt the needle jab your finger pad. By
using the thumbnail as a reference point and guide, you will know the blood
sample should be no more than an inch away from the thumbnail. With a few
tries, and if a blood drop shows up on the skin, the strip will find it.

My problem is that the test sample often is very slow in showing up, and
ikt takes a few finger squeezes, or even my wife having to come over and
eyeball the finger to tell me where the sample drop is located.

If a blood drop is there, this technique works very easily. As I said, my
problem is remembering to exercvise my arm and hand in order to get the
bloodcirculating.

Good luck and good hunting.

Hi Cheryl,
I have even tried to do this with the meter. I must really not be getting
much blood.
Of course it is hard for me to get blood for anything.
I think your description was very helpful.
