The body burns and replenishes fat constantly -- read "Why We Get Fat" by
Gary Taubs, as I say. It's on BookShare.

Strength training will help you lose weight more than actual exercise.
When strength training, it works your muscles, and this can allow your body
to continue to burn fat even long after exercise. Aerobic exercise is good
for your heart, and if the intensity is enough, it can help you initially
lose weight, but yeah, I agree, you may have to really step it up with
cardio if wanting to lose weight. But the body will only burn fat during the
work-out, whereas strength training helps the body burn fat hours after a
work-out.
And once you reach a certain weight, if you want to lose more, you will
probably have to up the intensity and length.
I did hear two doctors on the Today Show say that people who do cardio for
30 minutes a day but live active lives in general (walking instead of
driving, up moving about doing chores, etc.) can lose just as much weight as
those of us who do longer work-outs. Not sure where this info came from, but
it was two doctors making the claim. I have my doubts though.
BTW, my father-in-law is an avid biker. He's done RAGBRAI several times,
smile.

Actually, the only time I ever lost weight while exercising was while I was
doing training for RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across
Iowa.) But in those days I exercised four or five hours a day. People who
think they will lose weight doing 15 or 30 minutes are off base.
Also, the more conditioned you are, the more you have to do if you want to
burn enough calories to lose weight, and it has to strengthen your muscles
(strength training) and raise your heart rate (cardio and sometimes strength
training.) That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
