Not to mention, many meters are somewhat sensitive to temperature, drugs we
take and how quickly the blood is applied. I know that my meter doesn't like
getting hit with a large amount of blood or at least, what it considers too
much blood all at once. Back 20 years or so, I had trouble getting accurate
results because my hematocrate wasn't high enough. Oh don't look at that
spelling. <grin> 
Sometimes it cracks me up when I read some of the marketing hype that comes
with insulin pumps. Oh now we can deliver insulin in teeny tiny itty bitty
amounts for the fine tuning, bla bla bla. Well, given that the number on
which all these decisions are based can be so far off, umm, yeah right! 
I sure don't need my result in five seconds. I do like the small drop bit
though. Sometimes I really have to fight for even that. <grin>

OOPS, I see this sort of answers the variance of strips.. but are you saying
the meter adapts to "your" blood sample in determining a result over time?

Most of the inaccuracy that people put down to their meters is, in fact, a
matter of variation in the strips -- remember that they react chemically
with your blood to produce a small electrical voltage which, over time,
allows your meter to determine what your blood glucose reading is.

Ten points could, indeed, be a "systematic" error. But you really wouldn't
know since you can't use the same strip on the two meters. In fact, meters
for home use are required only to be within 15% to 20% of lab standard. I
think this is deplorable but there do seem to be problems with strip
manufacture that make it difficult to get more accuracy than that given that
we want our results quickly and using a small blood sample and the fact that
there is such variability in technique used by the public to take their
readings.

How would the strip be inaccurate?
That is an interesting thing to say.
I have used the meter over the weekend where it has stayed ten numbers
apart.
I need to get more of the solution then I will test again to see if the
numbers get closer.
