Very few meters for the home-use market are calibrated for whole blood
anymore.

NFB Members,

I spoke again with the President of Total Diabetes Supply and he has alerted
his staff to be ready to assist any and all NFB Members. If you place an
order with them mention the discount code VID and they will give you an
additional 5% off his regular price. That would be a price of $8.45 for a
box of 50 Prodigy test strips and $35.15 for a Prodigy Voice meter kit.
That is the lowest Prodigy price I have heard of. I put together a Word
document with some of the prices that Total Diabetes Supply offers NFB
Members using the VID discount code along with their contact information.
They offer a lot of other medical products that they will provide the VID
discount on too.

I also saw recently a stream of questions about blood glucose meter
differences. Many good comments were made about what could cause these
differences. One thing that was not mentioned is that some meters could be
calibrated for plasma results and others for whole blood results. What's
the difference?" you might ask. The difference is that plasma numbers read
about 10 - 12% higher than the older whole blood numbers. So if your fasting
and pre-meal blood glucose target is 90 - 130 mg/dl plasma glucose, it would
be 80 - 120 mg/dl if your meter reads whole blood. You can read the entire
article at Joslin Diabetes Center

If there are questions feel free to shoot me an email.

Insofar as I know, NFB has no official arrangement with Total Diabetes
Supply although I believe Jerry Munden was/is involved in working on such an
arrangement.

Well, after a few years, I am now trading in my solus and going to go back
and try the prodigy Voice again.

It appears the prodigy voice meter is not offered on the TDS (Total Diabetes
Supply) site, but strips are.

I called TDS, and as someone mentioned NFB has a 5% discount when ordering
from TDS.. TDS says I need to get the code from NFB, anyone know from whom
or where to get this code?

I did find the Prodigy Voice meter on the NFB site for the best price from
what I could locate and have ordered, but Strips are much more from there.

Thanks, Tamera
