[Diabetes-talk] prodigy meter

I've never heard of getting a talking meter free or discounted, and in fact,
I believe this has been issue some NFB affiliates have addressed as many
newly diagnosed diabetics are given a meter free of charge by their nurse
educators except when you require a talking meter. Insurance should cover
the cost of a talking meter though. Others may know of other deals or
programs I'm not aware of, but personally, I've never heard of getting a
free talking meter. I use the Prodigy Voice, and have had two, which my
insurance covered.

As for changing eating habits, I always tell people, you just make the
changes. It's that simple. Learn what works best for you, decide what you
want to change, study up on food and nutrition and employ the changes. Like
most things in life, it's about choices and motivation. You either employ
changes or not.

You can find information from nurse educators, books, websites and of course
from other people. Do you have any specific changes in mind? And remember, a
key is portion control and exercise along with any potential nutrition
changes. And I push nutrition when people want to make changes. If it's
healthy and nutritious, it's probably good for you.

It's also okay to indulge every now and then too; again, just do in
moderation.

Hope this helps, and I'm sure others will have info too.

Bridgit
