The value is something like $119.00. The guy who makes the thermometer is
Phil Brooks. He now lives in TX. I'd bet if you Google him, you'd find his
website (he used to live in California.
Alternatively, Joy Stigile at JoyStigile at gmail.com has his contact
information.

Subject: [Diabetes-talk] Talking Infrared Thermometer Drawing
All:
The Diabetes Action Network of the National Federation of the Blind will be
selling tickets at $5 each during the NFB convention in Orlando. Each ticket
entitles the purchaser to a chance in a drawing to win a talking infrared
thermometer. The drawing will take place during the customary drawing time
of noon on the last day of convention. Persons need not be present to win.
This talking infrared thermometer measures ambient air temperature and the
temperature of foods from refrigeration temperatures to temperatures of
cooked and cooking foods. There is no temperature probe; the thermometer has
an infrared sensor to determine the temperature via infrared radiation. In
fact, the thermometer can measure temperatures of food inside a crockpot
with the lid closed, thus allowing accurate measurement while the food is
cooking without having to open the crockpot and risk burns. The thermometer
also has a mode to tell the user where burners on barbecue grills and
flat-top stoves are if users aren't already able to do this directly. The
thermometer can speak either French or English and can render readings in
either Fahrenheit or Celsius.
You may purchase the tickets from any member of the Diabetes Action Network
Board of Directors. They are: Mike Freeman (yours truly), Bernadette Jacobs
of Maryland, Sandi Ryan of Iowa, Marcy Gonzalez of Texas, Joy Stigile
(Pronounced Stigle)of California, Jean Brown of Indiana, Debbie Wunder of
Missouri, Ruby Polk of Missouri and Jonathan Franks of Texas.
Happy measuring!
Mike Freeman, President
Diabetes Action Network
National Federation of the Blind
