Then all I can say is that the medical supply companies must really be
ripping off the insurance companies. The company that sends me my supplies
quoted me a price of several hundred dollars for my Prodigy Voice, and thank
God insurance took care of it. I had no idea you could get it for $50 or so
from Independence Market. Also, for people having trouble getting enough
blood onto strips for accurate glucose readings, I am finding that the
rubber band method works well. Someone recently pointed it out here, I
believe. After washing and drying the hands, wind a rubber band a couple of
times around the finger you intend to prick, but closer to where it joins
the hand, and keep the band wound tightly as you prick and you may find, as
I have, that more blood comes out and it becomes much easier to get blood
onto the test strip. Before I started doing this, I was getting absurdly
low glucose readings. Thank you to whoever suggested this method.

The only talking meters are Prodigy and Solus. You can purchase a Prodigy
from the Independence Market for $50, I believe.

Hello. I, too, have been diagnosed as a pre-diabetic. My doctor has me
attending a class for diabetes. My insurance did cover the strips for
testing but I had to pay $19 for a Free-Style meter.
I told my doctor I needed one with speech so a prescription was called into
my Pharmacy at Walgreens. Does anyone know if the Free-Style meter has
speech and if so, are there online instructions to get it set up?
I may need to contact the Pharmacy if I cannot set it up.
Anita
