I would like to express my thoughts after seeing the notice of Mike
Freeman's passing on Facebook. It is definitely with great sadness to
loose a person who has been a great friend and fellow Federationist. I
had the priveledge of sharing a room with Mike at the national Center
while attending a seminar and when I had trouble with getting my phone
charged, he loan me his cable to charge my phone. He is a wonderful guy
who also kept up on the technology front for diabetics.

We will miss you Greatly, Mike.

> Andrews our list serve moderator and the second one is from Marcie
> Carpenter, President of National Federation of the Blind of Washington. I
> cried earlier and am now able to send out this message. Mike Freeman was
> someone who helped me to realize that having Diabetes was just a fact of
> life and just to move on. I will certainly miss talking to him. I love the
> sound of his voice, wisdom and practicality towards life. I am very sad to
> have to tell you of his passing away. See below for the announcement from
> Marci Carpenter, President of the NFB of Washington.

> Those of you who have used NFBNET in its various incarnations will know that
> Mike was an integral part of our success. He was an immediate and
> enthusiastic user of the service, when we went live in June of 1991. In
> those days you had to use a dial-up modem to get to our bulletinboard and
> there were only a few discussion areas, and lots of files. Later on I asked
> Mike, and Steve Jacobson, to assist with the monitoring of lists, as the
> traffic and number of lists had increased dramatically. He did this, as a
> volunteer for many years and could always be counted on to help. As you
> know, he was President of the NFB of Washington for a number of years, and
> was President of our Diabetics Division. He also served on our R&D
> Committee, among many other things, for many years. Even if you hadn't met
> Mike, you probably knew him from his extraordinarily deep voice, as a human
> sign, at NFB conventions. I and others participated on a Conference Call
> with him this past Tuesday, and he sounded good, so this came as a shock!

> Mike, thank you, and we will miss you!

> It is with a heavy heart that I write to share the news that our friend and
> long-time Federationist Mike Freeman passed away last Saturday. As many of
> you know Mike had been diagnosed with terminal cancer last summer and had
> been undergoing treatment. In the last few weeks his spirits had been high,
> his treatment had been going pretty well and he was planning to attend the
> NFB Washington Seminar next month. In the end it was his heart that gave
> out. Mike dedicated his life to helping blind children and adults realize
> their dreams. Mike requested that there be no service so we will respect his
> wishes. I will forward more information when I have it. Please keep Connie
> and Shanti in your thoughts and prayers.
