[Diabetes-talk] Diabetes-Talk Digest, Vol 106, Issue 25

Dear Marianne and Everyone,

I just began using premeal (fast acting) insulin last Wednesday and have
taken Lantis, (long acting) insulin for years. I use a click pen for both.
In my case 12 clicks before meals and 30 clicks at bedtime. There's no
measuring or need for vision involved. I get 5 pens in a box for both
prescriptions.

I subscribed to this list for years as I struggled with being diabetic but
still wanting to eat what I liked. It can't be done and that denial is
beyond dangerous. I'm scrabbling to get it right now. For me it's so very
hard. I recall there were many in this group who were great examples of
rationality and ability to adhere to the routines necessary to achieve
acceptable glucose levels. I feel fortunate this group is still being
maintained as I hope to benefit from your great examples and information.

Always with love,

Lissi

Hello Marianne,

My name is Everett. I just read your inquiry about
the Apple watch and diabetes, on the Diabetes Talk
list. I hope you don't mind, but I didn't want to
ask this on the list in case it was old news to
everyone. I've been away from the list for a
while, but have recently been able to come back
into the mix. In that short time, too, my wife has
now found out she's a diabetic.

Marianne, my question was not about the Apple
watch stuff, but about your mention of taking both
oral meds and insulin? I assume its insulin, since
you say injections, anyway.

I just wanted to make sure you know about the
products out there for a blind or low vision
diabetic to allow them to fill their own insulin
syringes? If you've been on the list for awhile,
you probably already heard some talk about this
stuff, but again, I just wanted to make sure. ;-)

The Count-A-Dose product helped me for many years
before I switched to a pump. It helps people fill
their own syringes competently and confidently, no
matter whether the can see or not. Last I checked
it only cost around $30, too. Here's the link for
some products for blind diabetics, at decent
prices, in case you weren't already aware of
them...

See you on the list.

Blessings to You and Yours, Marianne!
Everett

Hello all,

I am writing to inquire whether anyone has direct
experience with using the Apple Watch as a tool
for diabetes management? If so, I would be
interested to know what specific apps you use to
track glucose levels, medication, etc.
I am A voiceover user.
My medications are administered orally and via
injection. Not pump.
Thanks in advance for any information or insight
you might offer.

Hello I have one question for those who inject
insulin. So is it better to
inject insulin during the day in the morning or
in the evening. I just
want
to know what is the best approach as to get the
full effects of injecting
insulin.

Hi Angela,
I wait till I have a few containers filled and
drop them off at a pharmacy
that turns them over to the proper department with
the city of Los Angeles.

I save my sharps in a designated container. Every
few months, I have my wife take the medical waste
to a facility at our local dump designated for
that
