[Diabetes-talk] Heads up on Dexcom app update.

I hope so too, Robert. But again, at the heart of this problem is the non-standard methods of creating these apps. This is important if so many of our medical devices are going to rely on smart phones in the future. I mean really. Just look at the computer programs we can't use right now. Even the beloved Prodigy and Solus lack accessible programming which would allow us to upload and examine our own information. Again, it's how software is written. This is not simply an oops moment for the programmer. It's a lazy or inconsiderate cheap design, in my opinion. If they use standard protocols, everything would work with VoiceOver. We need to get these companies to understand this and make it a priority, not wait for somebody to complain so we're accommodated with a work-around which might last until the next update comes out. This isn't that hard! It's design. And I'm sticking to my story. <grin>

I *really* understand your frustration, but as a person who makes his living developing software, stuff like this, and sometimes far worse, happens. The fact that you got to humans, some of whom were engineers (hey, some of us are human) suggests that you made your point. I'll bet it's fixed in the next update. I sure hope it is, anyway.

All I can tell you is that their engineers confirmed it and it happened with the Dexcom app update, as I stated. And this is a big annoyance until one figures out that we have to go down and accidentally find a second save button. It's minor once we know it, but not if we don't. I'll sure never get that late night hour back. At least my tech support guy had a direct chat with the engineers while I was on hold. They shouldn't be doing these silly pop overs and allowing VoiceOver to still read ghost information from underkneath.

.3. It is not new to iOS 10. I have sent countless emails to their tech support email. I find it a minor annoyance, it really is a pretty easy work around. I see this behavior on my iPhone 7+ but not my iPod touch 6th Gen. Just FYI. I think it has to do with the bigger screen size, not iOS 10.

EdHello All,

I have noticed this behavior sense about iOS 9

The other problem is that given the news yesterday from Johnson and Johnson that the Animas Ping could be hacked because of its remote, our chances of getting talking remotes is, well, umm, urr, right!
But as far as the Eexcom is concerned, unlike most apps in general, at least we have a 24-hour phone number with a human on the other end of the call. And since they have engineers around, I would hope that someone could get us an older version of the app if there was real trouble with the new one. But this is why I pounced so loudly the other night so that they know we're paying attention and we're going to be vocal. But I do wonder about an overload of apps fighting over that blue tooth connection with the phones since everyone seems to be going that direction. Oh wait! I can't unlock my door because Dexcom is checking my BG reading. <grin> So it will be interesting to see just how things advance, or not. <grin>

You know Veronica, you described exactly why and how I refuse to use the
decks calm… I would actually be more pleased with the device or something
that doesn't depend on the use of my phone. We should be able to have
devices that work independently without having to worry about oh!! This
thing doesn't work with my phone. I won't be able to use it. No, that's not
acceptable to me When my phone has to take me to the bathroom so that I can
use it, wash my hands, does every other thing, it becomes not smart. To me,
that's carrying this to the extreme. I don't want to have to use my meter or
any other thing with my phone. I don't want them to be dependent on my
phone.

Hi everyone!
First, to those using the Dexcom, if you have not yet updated the app,
look
out! To the rest of us, here's why we really need to get these companies
to
use standard practices in creating their apps, especially for medical
devices because we're always going to be just one update away from
trouble!
Here's what happened. I updated the Dexcom app as well as my phone to iOS
10. Not happy about that one, but that's a different list. <grin> I then
had
to pair a new transmitter. Once I did that, I waited through the two-hour
sensor warmup and got the notification, tap to enter first BG.
I tapped and entered the number as usual. Then I hit save. I got the
confirmation message, is this correct? At this point, like before I found,
save button and double-tapped. Nothing happened. I still had the same
question, a number pad and a very goofy looking screen. After spending an
hour on the phone with tech support, uninstalling the app, reinstalling
the
app, all of that when I really wanted to be snuggled up in bed, my hubby
happened to get up and noticed the problem. It seems that Dexcom isn't
using
standard controls and that confirmation message is kind of a pop over
layer.
VoiceOver is actually seeing two different save buttons, even though the
sighted people only see one. So the real save button is down amidst the
numbers, between the two and the five. VoiceOver is just seeing these
ghost
images from things that used to be there. We did figure out that the
engineers knew about this too. I gave them quite an earful about fixing
this
and how they should have used standard Apple app creation methods.
The only thing I've noticed about this update is that the widget now
appears
in the notification section. Oh wait, take that back. It appeared earlier
but not now. Sheesh!
So okay, I've figured out how to get around this till they fix it, if they
do. But really? I sure hope it doesn't get any junkier with future
updates.
This was the sort of problem with the IBGStar app as well. Non-standard
stuff. We're never quite out of the woods, are we!
