[Diabetes-talk] Prodigy Voice

We should be glad an accessible meter exist. As we struggle and fight for
accessible medical devices, at least we can test independently. And
honestly, I don't find it terribly difficult to log blood sugars at the end
of each day. It also allows me to note meals, boluses and activity, which a
simple upload would not do. We can complain about our situation or we can be
proactive. We should not stop fighting and demanding accessibility for our
health, but we should also be positive and recognize what does exist for us
to be independent and care for ourselves. In the grand scheme, logging
glucose numbers is not a big deal.

I suspect Prodigy contracts the software out and its contractors don't know
diddly about making software accessible. And, of course, given our small
numbers, perhaps Prodigy doesn't want to pay for its software contractors to
learn.
At the time the Voice came out, though, we were just glad there was a small,
accessible meter out there. We should raise our expectations, though, but
I'm afraid we'd get the same sort of controversy we get with Apple-lovers
and those who think Apple should do more.

Interesting they make accessible meters but not software that's accessible.

Pardon the pun gang! Let's not sugar-coat things here. The software doesn't
just have issues. It is simply not accessible to jaws or with any other
screen reader!! That's the way it is. That's the way it always has been. I
work for prodigy for four years and that was my biggest complaint with them.
