[Diabetes-Talk] KNFB reader and pump

Veronica,
I swim at the Y. During triathlon training, my partner and I swim at a local
gym our entire team trains at. My husband and I go to our Y a couple of
times a week though. I've yet to have a problem with anyone having a problem
sharing a lane with me. I'm pretty good about sticking to one side of the
lane, but I do swerve sometimes, especially now with this baby anchoring me
down, grin. My husband I take turns swimming laps while the other hangs out
with our son in the section of the pool for play. Our Y in general has been
pretty great. Giving us tours and helping with whatever assistance we ask
for, whether assisting with a machine or locating an item like towels or
padlocks for lockers or accessing the schedule.

I used Facetime once when I couldn't remember whether or not I'd taken my
insulin. As for the KNFB reader, I got it to read the remote for the Ping
once but I'd really have to build a specific holder or it just takes too
long to line things up. The OmniPod screen is one of the best for it though.
And I sure don't think pregnancy is off topic here. Besides, we're kind of
family here and even though I've never been pregnant, there's always
something to be learned in terms of managing diabetes through changing
hormones and such.
And out of curiosity, Bridgit, where do you swim? I was swimming at the
university and boy did that help my blood sugar readings. Actually, I wasn't
doing laps but more like water exercises. But it was perfect for me. Only
problem was running into a few bullies who yelled at me for not going
straight, bla bla bla. I wish I could find a place where I could feel free
and comfortable again. And of course, the Animas claims that I wouldn't have
to take the pump off either. That could be nice. But boy the Dexcom sure
freaked out when I spent that hour in the pool. It always thought I was low
even though I wasn't.
Anyway, keep up the good work, all of you and please keep those snippits of
real life coming.

Wow Bridget!! You're good!! I never thought of doing a FaceTime thing.
Shoot!! That's a brilliant idea!! Like you say, in a pinch!! And don't
worry about the baby being off topic. I don't think it's off-topic it all.
As a matter of fact, I think it's one of those right on target thanks. And
my reason is because often times, pregnancy can really put a damper on your
diabetes. You have to make a whole lot of changes all the time depending on
what trimester you're in. Also depending on what either you or your baby are
doing. There are so, so many variables!! My first pregnancy and my only
pregnancy was not good at all. As a matter fact, that was what I said I had
lost the baby and miscarriage. That was a long, hard, hot summer. They took
the baby at 12 weeks. I was a very high risk pregnancy from the very
beginning. Insulin reaction to every day. I would go up-and-down like a
roller coaster for as long as seven hours at a time. It was miserable. It
was obviously never meant to be. A matter of a few years after that, we
adopted our two little blessings. Virginia is now 13 going on 14. David just
turned 16 on Monday the second. Amazing! Huh?
