Hi,
I am totally blind. From what a sighted person told me (as in reference to powering off the receiver,) it's an option from within the menu.
You have to select, "Shutdown," then the receiver turns off. Turning the receiver on is as simple as pushing the button.
Uploading data?
Uploading It's a piece of cake. Uploading is plug-and-play.
First, you have to get the Dexcom uploader application. You must be logged into Dexcom Clarity to get the download link.
Once you obtain the link, install the program as you would any other Windows application.
Once the uploader screen comes up (you might have to start it from All programs,) it should bring up a username and password dialog. Enter your Dexcom username/password (the one's you use to loginto Dexcom Clarity with,) and hit enter.
This username and password dialog wil only come up once, unless you end up changing your Dexcom clarity account information.
Finally, plug your receiver into your computer's USB port, then the other end of the cable into the micro USB port on your receiver.
I have tested the uploader with Jaws 14, and it reads the messages that come up (e.g., Receiver detected, reading, preparing, sending, done, etc,) and that is accessible.
So in conclusion, as long as you have the Dexcom uploader setup on your computer, plug your receiver into your computer and it will automatically upload.
As a rule of thumb, I was told by my doctor to try and upload on a daily bases, this way nothing gets lost.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, and I will answer them as best as I can.
It should be noted that, if you own a Mac, the Dexcom Uploader also is available for Mac, and does work with Voiceover on OS X.
Have an awesome day.
