I do most all of it without sighted help. I had a trainer from Medtronics
that worked with me at the doc's office once a week for a few weeks. When I
went out on my own I had the trainer's phone number and she was there to
answer any questions for me.

Calling in to the support line was a bit of a cchalenge starting off as they
wanted to know what the screen said. Once I got familiar with it I learned
how to get around pretty good without knowing what the screen says.

I do it all by myself filling the cartridge bolis. The Mini Med 530 G
sends text messages to your phone and can also be that someone else can get
the text hessages, too. I don't carry my IPhone around with me so the pumps
low battery, insulin low, stopped delivery, etc. I wasn't always getting and
forget my middle son, he never called me to ask what was that text message
about.

I depend on the Dexcom letting me know about lows, highs, falling fast,
rising fast, etc and there is no problems hearing it. I take my IPhone to
bed with me and put the sound louder or softer according to what I
anticipate during the night. Since I also have the thingy that came with
the Dexcom on my dresser and there has been times I have stuck it in a draw
and hid it under a bunch of clothes, just not to hear it in stereo.

There are enough sounds using both the pump & Dexcom that I can determine
how and what is happening.

Joyce,

Have you tried doing anything else beyond the touch bolus with the
Medtronic? Like changing the cartridge, or using the glucose wizard, etc. I
will need to switch soon as I'm using the now discontinued Animas, but I'm
hoping for a pump that I can do more than touch bolus on my own.

The Meditronic 530 pump works well. It does not have a touch screen and for
bolis you press the button and it beeps or vibrates [your choice] and you
count the beeps when you finish, you push the act button and it will beep
back the number you put in and if it is correct you push the act button once
again to take the dosage or you push the cancel button and start over.

I actually had ordered the Meditronic 630 G, but it didn't have the app for
the IPhone and since the new one had already been FDA approved they told me
they probably would not work on an app for that model. So I returned it and
got the mini med 530 G model.

Hi,

My diabetic educator just called me and wants me to meet with the rep for
the Tandem slim X2 insulin pump because she said it uses sounds for giving
boluses. I know that there is not a great accessible pump currently as an
option, and I wonder if this is the one that has a touch screen an can't be
turned on in an accessible manner. Does anyone know anything about this
one? I am just starting to look at pumps and educating the rep and my doctor
about the accessability problem. I told them about the Omni pod and that I
want to look at that one, too. I currently do not have a CGM, but will
probably be going to the Dexcom G6 when it comes out towards the end of the
month.

Thanks for any feedback.

Shawn
