[Diabetes-Talk] Anyone using AIRA?

I've not personally tried AIRA yet, but I know several people who are using it for all sorts of things, to setting up TVs and devices to shopping to navigating busy intersections or parking lots, etc. So far, I've yet to find someone who doesn't love it, beyond having to pay for it. But, I think it's like $90 for 2 hours a month, which isn't much, but my understanding is that more and more locations are participating with AIRA to be free spots, so, when using AIRA in these locations, it doesn't count against your minutes. I've mostly thought of using the service for shopping, cut out the middle man and all, you know, grin, but, I thought it could be useful for medical devices like pumps. When Facetiming, I've had success with my pump, but the Animas does have a contrast button, so, you can change the contrast, helping with glare and such.

Veronica, when I change a set, I'm typically naked, because it's usually after a shower, but when actually doing a reservoir change, I have something on, but I could easily be fully dressed to do it. But, I also just stick to somewhere on my tummy or lower back, grin.

I need to get a good explanation of how these things work to see why I'm having better luck with the OmniPod screen. The problem is that either you wait and get someone there before you start the process or if you're in the midst of something, you risk the thing timing out while you chase down the other person. And the other issue for me is that sometimes when changing cartridges, pods, or what have you, umm, I'm at least partly undressed. Good thought though. <grin> Veronica

Bridgett,

The problem would be the screen glare that people get when looking at many devices. I’ve tried using FaceTime with my sister when I needed a visual check on the pump screen and she could not read the pump because of the glare. She had to come over in-person. Its been suggested, but not tried out, to place a piece of clear tape over the display screen of the pump which “might” make it readable if using the phone to have someone look at it for us.

Curious, anyone using AIRA for their pump and/or Dexcom? I know more and more people are using it, and it occurred to me last night that it would be handy for things like an insulin pump.
