[Diabetes-Talk] Medicare revised Dexcom policy.

Yes, it sounds like if you’re using the Dexcom then you must be using it with sighted help to get Medicare coverage. What about using it independantly with just the app? I need to read through more of the links as well.

Hi everyone.
Maybe I need to snoop further but as I read this revised policy, ummm, it doesn't look like a victory to me. It listed two instances for coverage: one where someone used the receiver and shared data via the iPhone and the other when someone used both the receiver and the phone. Neither of those are me. I'll have to get more information but this doesn't look like they heard us at all. Everything only refers to the sharing of data, which is where Dexcom put its focus. Sure hope I'm missing something. I really want to be wrong here. But yikes!

Hi everyone.
I have tried Facetime for many things where I needed to borrow a pair of working eyeballs. Although my hubby swore he'd kill me if I called him at work and asked him to help me look for a dog toy. <lol> 
The biggest problem I have with FaceTime is that I just can't seem to line up the camera to save my life. Even when I'm holding it just talking to someone I get comments like, move the camera. I'm just looking down your nose! Oops! The other issue is that it's hard to hold the phone while doing something on the pump. Maybe some of you are more nimble than I am. <grin> 
But truthfully, I think it's important to communicate to these companies what lengths all of us are going to in order to try and use the modern technology. And you never know which suggestion by one of us will just land, bam! So all of the ideas and thoughts are really fun. But I will try the experiment with the OmniPod screen so we have something to compare.

Hi Veronica,

Well, since you already have an Iphone, I suggest downloading the Facetime app (I’m pretty sure its free) that is if you don’t already have it. You can try doing a simple experiment with your husband just to see if he can make out what is showing on the pump’s remote or display screen or whatever you said the Omni has. If he can’t see the display because of screen glare, then you can try putting a small piece of either plastic wrap or clear packing tape over the display screen and try it again. Its very easy to use Facetime. Once the app is on your phone and your contact’s phone, then whenever you look at that person’s contact information there will be an option along with the home, moble, work numbers to Facetime that person.

And, now that I’m writing this, I think the next time I have my sister captive I’ll try this out with her to see if covering my pump’s screen is any clearer with plastic or tape over it.

I need to get a good explanation of how these things work to see why I'm having better luck with the OmniPod screen. The problem is that either you wait and get someone there before you start the process or if you're in the midst of something, you risk the thing timing out while you chase down the other person. And the other issue for me is that sometimes when changing cartridges, pods, or what have you, umm, I'm at least partly undressed. Good thought though. <grin>

The problem would be the screen glare that people get when looking at many devices. I’ve tried using FaceTime with my sister when I needed a visual check on the pump screen and she could not read the pump because of the glare. She had to come over in-person. Its been suggested, but not tried out, to place a piece of clear tape over the display screen of the pump which “might” make it readable if using the phone to have someone look at it for us.
