I agree with the locking of the phone, since our phones often have personal information in them like credit card numbers.  But, the phones do have the option to not have them lock.  I understand that the lock feature on the pumps are to avoid someone accidentally giving a bolus from their back pocket or purse, but they need to make the unlock feature accessible.

Call me crazy for thinking this is a possibility, but I wonder  if Medtronic would consider making the 530G available to visually impaired pump users.  The 530G was just discontinued this month, and I am thinking that I made the wrong decision to not get it while I could.  It was as accessible as the Animas pump.  My educator said  that it uses the same supplies as the newer 630 and  670G pumps, so I wonder if they would let those of us who are blind and visually impaired use it.  I remember getting my first talking cell phone about 18 years ago prior to the iPhone being invented, and Nokia set aside a discontinued model of their phone just for the blind to use with a program called Talks or something like that.  I had that phone until switching to the iPhone 4.  

Anyway, it is a thought, since the 530G  was accessible for us.  And, it was small unlike the monster-size 630 and 670!

At least phones are accessible. I don't mind that my phone locks because I have 2 little ones, grin. But, yes, for pumps, seems silly.

Bridgit, all of the pump companies are doing this. Something about not wanting people to get too rushed and not look at their pumps. Totally ridiculous given that back when I started, pumps were designed to be hidden under clothing, not noticed and completely used without looking. I think the wrong people have become in charge of design. There's probably a lawyer in there somewhere and they're so worried about people doing something wrong. It's really crazy that you even have to unlock these pumps just to silence or give an okay to an alarm. 
But for now, I'm afraid we're stuck with this. Just like the phones.

Wonder why they would create the lock feature this way. It would be annoying for sighted people too to not always have it the same button/spot on screen.

    Veronica and I have already met with the educators, and she has even pursued it even further at a conference. Unfortunately, Medtronic has no way of disabling the unlock feature on their new pumps. Not being able to get past the unlock screen makes the 630G and 670G in accessible to a totally blind person. I also looked at the Tandem, and the entire pump is touchscreen. There is no way to even figure out how to know what is on the screen and where to touch it. Veronica is experimenting with the Omni pod, which may be our only choice for a pump.
