Hi Dacia! Welcome to the list. I'm sure you will be hearing from many
others today. I remember being pregnant 20 years ago and felt like I was
constantly eating. A handful of nuts, a yogurt, fresh fruits and
vegetables, etc. Food options have changed a lot in 20 years. For my
breakfast these days, I found these great Nature Valley protein bars that
are less than 30 grams of carbs and low in sugar. My favorite are the
Nature Valley XL protein chewy bar Mixed Nut. It has 15 grams of protein
and is covered in almond butter that tastes like chocolate. I can eat one
of those and not be hungry for hours. For snacks, I still eat a handful of
some kind of nut or Walmart's trail mix with Omega 3. The trail mix has
very little, if any salt and dried cranberries. I do need to take a few
units of insulin for the cranberries though. I also like Nature Valley's
peanut butter biscuits with nut cream. Again, they are made with almond
butter, which I really like.
I had to limit my intake of Nutrasweet, so I ate the regular yogurts while
pregnant. However, I can't eat those now. Yogurt is a good source of
calcium for the baby though.
As far as snacks for your baby shower, serve veggies with humus or dip,
fresh fruit with a vanilla yogurt dip, etc. It's healthy foods that you can
eat, and people don't always need junk food.
Hopefully, this is a start for you. Others will probably have some other
ideas for you too.
Jamie

Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] new member with questions
Hi everyone,
My name is Dacia and my husband and I are expecting our first child at the
beginning of August. I was recently diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and
am looking for any advice you can provide. Specifically, is there a trick to
knowing that you have enough blood to put on the test strip to test your
blood sugar? I am also looking for quick and easy diabetic friendly
recipes. Especially ones for desserts and snacks so I can give them to
those who are hosting my baby showers.
They want to make sure to have snacks that I can eat. Also, are their any
granola bars or fruit/protein bars that you find that are good and don't
raise your sugar and are low in carbs? What about the protein shakes do you
ever drink those and if so is there are a particular part of the day that
is best to drink them? What about breakfast I find that to be hard not to
go crazy with carbs what things do you eat for breakfast? I know eggs are
good, but I don't always have time during the week to fix eggs due to my
work schedule.
Sorry for all the questions,I'm just trying to ensure I do the best for
myself and my baby.
Dacia
