[Diabetes-Talk] Freestyle Libre

Hello,
The app is now live in the iOS app store. I just used it for the first time and it was great. I can now scan my sensor with my phone. So far I have found the Libre to be spot on. I have compared it to readings with my Prodigy voice. I am a type One diabetic and have been so for 39 years.

My endocrinologist does not recommend the Libre for Type 1's because it is not as accurate. Right now, it also does not give automatic alarms for high and low readings. With the Libre you just have to keep looking to find out if things are getting out of hand. It also does not read the number as often. At the moment, I also don't know how people are getting access to their readings as the receiver is not accessible and there is not yet a phone app which displays readings, allows you to set various alarms and pair up your transmitter, as the Dexcom has, all without assistance.

I actually bought a case for my meter as well. They sell different accessories for them on Amazon. I can’t wait till the app comes out on the US app store. It has been FDA approved so now begins the wait for it.

Soon the LibreLink app will be out for us iPhone users. This will allow you to turn on voice alerts when the sensor is scanned with the iPhone and the active app. It will read the blood sugar and alerts if your reading is going up or dropping too fast. You are correct in the 1 hour start up time is only with the new 14 day sensor.

With the sensors I got I have to wait 12 hours before it is ready for use. I thought it was only an hour but that might just be with the new 14 day sensors.

So I do love what the dexcom g series does for me as far as it keeps me in control and keeps me informed of what I am doing as far as my food choices, exercise choices and the rest.
