[Diabetes-Talk] Dexcom. This is just weird!

Veronica,

I sure hope they follow through with their intentions. I am going through a similar issue with Dexcom and my new insurance, Humana. I am also doing a review for how my insulin is paid for, since Humana is filing it through part B since it is being infused by a pump. Therefore, instead of costing me $131, it was going to cost me almost $500. I told them that that was a ridiculous price that I have never had to pay ever in the past and could they please figure something out. They have sent a request for some kind of special authorization from my doctor and will put it through their clinical review to determine the end result.

As for Dexcom, I have yet been told that my order that I started processing on March 4 is able to be shipped yet. My last transmitter is about ready to expire, and I have nothing to use after it is dead. It is not Dexcom‘s fault though, it is all of the Medicare hoops that I have to go through. As of March 26, Dexcom said that they finally have all of the needed documents on file from my doctor. However, they now have to submit a request for A request for approval which my doctor signs, faxes it to Humana who then approves it and then let Dexcom know that they can ship my order. I can’t be upset with Dexcom, since they are just following the Medicare and Humana guidelines. I sure hope I don’t have to go through all of this when I need my next order. I do understand that I have to notify them when my transmitter gives me it’s three week warning, so they can send a warranty request to my Doctor Who then Hass to complete a form that goes back to Dexcom and then to Humana for approval. Isn’t that the craziest thing you have ever heard? Anyway, I guess I can’t complain, since I do have insurance.

I just don’t understand how they can charge so much for insulin. It is a life – saving necessity, so how can they expect someone to pay so much for a vial of it? What do people who don’t have insurance do?
