[Diabetes-Talk] query re Dexcom G5 and bluetooth on my iPhone

Okay, here's the answer to both questions.
First, seeing two items in your blue tooth devices. If you look carefully at
the device names, you'll notice that they contain the last couple of digits
of your current transmitter's serial number. And the second one will contain
the previous transmitter's serial number. This is because when you pair a
new transmitter, Dexcom does not remove the old one. It will go away when
Dexcom does an app update. Really lazy, if you ask me. If you leave both of
them there, most of the time there's no problem. However, if you find you're
getting a lot of signal loss notification, it could be coming from Dexcom
looking for both transmitters. I do always go in by hand and remove the old
transmitter because, well, I just do. <grin> But boy I'm careful to make
sure I don't remove the one I'm currently using.
Second, the reason they say not connected is because the Dexcom only queries
the transmitter every five minutes. It is not actually snarfing up all of
your blue tooth band width all of the time. If you should happen to land
right at the moment when the app did a quick chat with the sensor and
transmitter, you'd see it saying connected. So this has nothing to do with
the receiver or secure special connections, just catching it when it's
actually asking for an update.
All of this information came from Dexcom.
Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the information.
Now I know it is not just my iPhone, so I guess it is part of the Dexcom
design. It would have been nice if it had been mentioned in their
instructions?
Warm regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul! I use the G6, but I noticed the same thing. I have six Dexcoms
listed (i.e. Dexcom TM, Dexcom AA, Dexcom CG) and all say that they are not
connected. My Dexcom works just fine too. I'm puzzled by this, since it
doesn't have that any Dexcom is paired with my Blue Tooth even though I know
it is.

Subject: [Diabetes-Talk] query re Dexcom G5 and bluetooth on my iPhone
Hi all,
About a week ago, I did my first transmitter change for my Dexcom G5, and
all went well.
Today, I went into Settings to check on Bluetooth for an unrelated device,
and noticed that there are now 2 bluetooth entries for Dexcom, one under the
other, and both say, "not connected", although the app is working fine!
Firstly, is it normal for there to be 2 entries, and should I do anything
about it?
Secondly, why do they say, "not connected", when the app is working
properly?
Thank you for any advice about this.
Warm regards,
Paul in Australia.
