Eileen,

Of course, but it's still scary anyone would use a drug for anything other than its intended purpose.

My dad also did not use insulin or steroids but knew a lot of guys who did. My dad was an athlete and in addition to body building, he also played basketball, tennis, baseball and football. He played baseball and football at the collegiate level and tennis at the semi-pro level, so he was well aware of steroids and knew people who took them. As did I, since I did competitive swimming and running for years and know a lot of athletes, but I've never heard of anyone taking insulin for it too.

Bridgit,

Not all of them do, but some. Just like they use steroids which are addictive & dangerous.

My husband did not use insulin nor steroids. But among people who are into body-building its common knowledge.

Eileen,

That's strange and terrifying that body builders use insulin. My dad used to body build but never took insulin, and I couldn't find anything when I Googled it; thanks for sharing.

Gary,

In us, the insulin not only lowers our BG levels but makes the body store fat. That is also why we as diabetics need to watch all the foods we eat, not just sugar and carbs. When our BG levels are out of control we tend to drop weight, once we start gaining better control with the use of insulin we tend to start putting weight on. When I started using my insulin pump I was told to expect approximately a 10 Lb weight gain.

My husband who was very physically fit & into lifting weights and working out knew all about t why body builders used insulin. Its a really stupid thing to do!

Body builders abuse Insulin. Insulin has anabolic effects. Here is what I found, of many results, on Google Chrome:

Bodybuilders use it -- often in combination with steroids -- to pump their muscles full of staying power. It's estimated that one in four steroid abusers also take insulin. ... The insulin helps feed muscles during intense exercise, prevents muscle breakdown, and helps performance.

Then why do body builders take it if they want to lose weight and put on muscle I saw this on a youtube channel and I am not sure how valid it is. But I questioned that as well.

No, insulin doesn't help you lose weight.
