[Diabetes-Talk] Question for pump users.

Eileen,

Yes, I know the JD fritadas do not have bread, grin. I also don't usually make breakfast unless it's the weekends because I'm getting kids ready. But for dinner, I will make something like this.

Yeah, it was about a month ago that a warning went out about JD recalls on the fritada sandwhiches. I haven't tried them yet and wanted too, but this has kept me from doing so just yet. Good to hear you've been fine.

Yes, perhaps, but I’m a lazy cook. Especially in the morning I don’t even like pulling out a pan for eggs. There is no bread on the JD fritatas. The sandwiches on the other hand you can get with a choice of whole wheat bagel, english muffin, cresant or flat bread. The flat bread is the lowest carb choice, but unfortunately they are like eating a piece of cardboard.

I did not hear of a recall on them. I haven’t been sick so all is good with my batch – its long gone from a month ago.

It's also pretty easy to make egg fritada sandwhiches yourself, grin. My husband likes breakfast sandwhiches, but I don't like all the carbs of an English muffin, so I make 2 egg fritadas in a skillet and put a sausage and cheese in between. FYI, the Jimmy Dean fritadas had a recall a month ago. I assume they are fine now but just to be aware.

Veronica,

Not sure if this would be to your taste or not, but I think they are pretty tasty and they are only around 8-9G of carbs. I have been buying in the frozen section at the store a box of Jimmy Dean Egg, veggie & turkey sausage Fritatas. The box has 3 packages with each package containing 2 fritatas. I can eat the 2 in the pack because they are only 8-9 grams of carbs and only about 220 calories. With it I can have a piece of fruit or slice of bread to fill in with a bit more on the carbs because with taking insulin I can go too low. Anyway they taste good and are easy to make in the toaster oven &/or microwave. They are good at breakfast & lunch. I also like the Jimmy Dean Delights egg cheese & turkey sausage sandwhiches, but they are higher on the carbs but still within range at around 28-30G of carb per sandwich plus good protein.

HTH.

eileen

If I eat cereal, I go up for awhile, then crash. Finding a protein I like for breakfast is my biggest struggle. Yes, I hate peanut butter. <grin> Veronica

Yes, I totally agree. I really watch my carbs anymore. It seems like the older I get, the less affective insulin is for me when I do eat something like pasta or one small slice of pizza. No matter how much more insulin I take, my blood sugar level is always high hours after eating it. I also had to give up eating cereal for my breakfast, since it made my blood sugar go skyhigh all morning no matter how much insulin I would take. It is interesting how others can still eat cereal, but eating a protein bar doesn’t affect me at all.
