[Diabetes-Talk] FB group created

Jamie,

My son is only 6 but is on the spectrum. He was nonverbal for 3 years, in
addition to exhibiting other signs, but he's now totally verbal and has a
big vocabulary and talks all the time, but he has trouble communicating
emotions and thoughts and feelings. He's considered high functioning, but
he's definitely neuro divergent. I love him so much and wouldn't change
anything, because being ND is a part of who he is. But yes, it can be
challenging at times. He's stubborn, more so than a nero typical kid and can
have melt downs, which are exhausting when they happen. He's super bright
though and looks at the world with a really interesting perspective a lot of
the time.

Bridget,

I haven't heard of that group. My group was related to my former job
and was a great way for me to post monthly meeting announcements and other
activities and resources for families in my area. My son was diagnosed with
Asperger's at age 7. He was a challenging child, but he has grown in to an
amazing soon-to-be 21 year old. He is a junior in college, still lives at
home with me and reminds me of a milder version of Sheldon. He also has
low vision from retinopathy of prematurity, but he does very well for
himself.

Jamie,

Side note, have you heard of the FB group Autistic Allies? I'm on that group
because my son is on the spectrum. It's great because we learn from actual
Autistic adults.

Anyway, I did post the link last night for the FB grouop I created. I can
post it again if I need too.

I started a similar type Facebook group for the autism support group that I
facilitated every month. No one could search and find it either. I had the
link to join the group on all of the flyers that went out every month to the
schools that announced each meeting. That was the only way I could acquire
new members. We could never figure out why it was not searchable, since I
had very specific keywords associated with it.

So, just post the link to the group on our mailing list. Hopefully, we can
join by clicking on it.

I had the same problem. I did a search but couldn't find the group to
join.
