[Diabetes-Talk] FB group created

An FB group is different than a personal page. Literally the only post you will see in an FB group is what the members post. So nothing political or unrelated to what the group is about, unless a member would post it, which admin would take down if inappropriate to the group. And FB works like a blog too and is accessible for blind people. The majority of NFB listserves have moved to FB groups, because it's a platform more people are comfortable with and used too. You can also create groups to be private, which I have done with the diabetes group, so when you request to join, admin has to approve you, and only members can post and see post in the group. The group is not secret, which is a different choice you can make a FB group, so anyone looking for it can find it, they just have to be approved to join and start posting. It's also easier to share articles and links directly to FB and Twitter sometimes too. And using a platform like FB makes it easier to find and reach out to other people, in this case blind diabetics, than the listserve, which, to be honest, is becoming an obsolete platform. The FB group will be here for whomever wants to use it, and in the event the listserve no longer serves a purpose, which most the listserves are. Here's the link again:

Veronica,

Ditto! I want to help a group for blind diabetics, but sorry won’t sign onto FB nor do I want to use it. I would even prefer something that would be set up on a blog that people could post to and the public could read.

The only groups I've been involved with on FB, someone in the group had to join someone else. I have left most of the groups I joined because it was so messy and so much work to follow. I sure don't want to have to write all of this stuff twice. <grin> I love participating here because it's so simple to reply. <grin> I didn't see a link go by yesterday. Maybe I missed it though.

Jamie,

Side note, have you heard of the FB group Autistic Allies? I'm on that group
because my son is on the spectrum. It's great because we learn from actual
Autistic adults.

Anyway, I did post the link last night for the FB grouop I created. I can
post it again if I need too.

Bridgit

I started a similar type Facebook group for the autism support group that I
facilitated every month. No one could search and find it either. I had the
link to join the group on all of the flyers that went out every month to the
schools that announced each meeting. That was the only way I could acquire
new members. We could never figure out why it was not searchable, since I
had very specific keywords associated with it.

So, just post the link to the group on our mailing list. Hopefully, we can
join by clicking on it.

Jamie

I had the same problem. I did a search but couldn't find the group to
join.
