And the thing is, we shouldn’t have to memorize things and figure out how to work around inaccessibilities. Each time we do that we give them an excuse not to make things more accessible, and we say we’re willing to struggle along with what’s available.

Bridget,

I looked at the Tandem with my educator, and it is all touch screen like an iPhone. There is no way to even memorize where to touch on it, since every touch changes the screen. It is a wonderful pump for sighted people or those with low vision who can read the screen. Too bad they didn't ask Apple how to put Voice Over on it.

So it doesn't work for us totally blind people. That's the thing. Up until now, we found work-arounds for existing pumps, but now, pumps are not able to be done completely nonvisually. A majority of us on this list using pumps are totally blind, or can't use our remaining vision at all to use it. So recommending a pump you are essentially using with sight doesn't help.

Yes-I am using it without sighted assistance. I’m low vision, and the pump display is easy for me to read. I has high contrast display, and the letters are large enough for me to see. What I love about it is that I don’t need the Dexcom receiver, CGM readings display right on the pump.

But yesterday I was speaking with the Medicare department at Dexcom. You'd think they'd know. Also, my endocrinologist had a conversation with the local Dexcom rep today and she also said April. Frankly, I wouldn't trust the words from Dexcom staff any further than I can see right now. And I'm a total.
>> And this morning they told me that they'd get my order right out and send me an extra sensor and transmitter to make up for the mess. But big surprise! Nothing happened. So unless something miraculous happens, come Monday, I'll be out of everything. Isn't that special! Guess I'll call again in the morning. I hate feeling this discouraged and disheartened, I really do. Just when I got my A1C below 7 for the first time too. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent, if you're still reading. I'm hoping I can get my frustration out of my system a bit so I can cheer up for my hubby. <grin> Thanks again.
