Baking soda is the same as sodium bicarbonate and bicarbonate of soda.
There is a tablet that can be used and is sold as an antacid. However, I
would consult your kidney doctor about using any form of baking soda. One
teaspoon of it has over 1200 mg of sodium in it, which is way too much for
someone with kidney problems.

I know the thing about baking soda. I'm supposed to get in some baking soda
every day for my kidneys, but I have yet to really figure out a good way to
do that. So it helps lowering acidity in the kidneys. At least that's what
I've been told. My kidney specialist said she could prescribe me something,
but I really don't want to be taking one more pill. And there should be a
way I can work it into what I eat or drink. Any suggesttions I'd be willing
to listen. I've heard both the cinnamon and strawberry thing helping to
lower sugar, also apple cider vinegar. Not really sure about any of those. I
do use cinnamon, I steep cinnamon in water to make it taste better. I also
really like ginger, sometimes I do cook with it. I agree that doctors don't
always know the homeopathic type remedies. Although that isn't always the
case. Before my kidney disease got bad that I had to watch sodium, when my
potassium levels got bad he'd have me drink a ton of fluids and get in salt.
And it would fix my too high potassium. And my dermatologist just
recommended black tea soaking wash cloths to help with keeping away jock
itch. So sometimes the home type remedies do get recommended by doctors.
