[Diabetes-Talk] cencer

Glad it's working for you. In a nutshell, carbs are what raise glucose levels. Protein stabilizes them. Some carbs like those in sugar and wheat will spike glucose levels, but carbs that are complex and high in fiber usually have a slower release. Protein keeps glucose levels stable, which is why we should eat more protein than carbs. Protein is any meat but also found in items like nuts and legumes, eggs and products like Greek yogurt. Frequent testing, consistent use of insulin and/or oral meds, a healthy diet and regular exercise all contribute to better diabetes management. Are you working with a nurse educator on learning more about diabetes and how to manage it? Most clinics offer diabetes education classes or know where they are offered.

I’m using the libre. It was what my insurance covers. It doesn’t cover much, but it’s worth it anyway. I like the fact that it’s only one piece, and although on the outside of the arm, is pretty discrete. I like that it tells me what the trend in my blood sugar is. As a new diabetic who is just learning about what blood sugar does win, it’s super useful.

With Dexcom, you don't have to do anything for it to test; it automatically test every 5 minutes. I like how it tells me if I'm constant or raising/lowering slowly or rapidly. It's one thing to know what my reading is, but another to know if it's constant or raising/lowering, and at what rate.

Also, a CGM can help monitor in real-time changes such as if stress is causing highs, or if a medication is, so you have a better opportunity to correct, which is the whole point. Any trends in glucose levels is indicated in the weekly reports, helping you and your doctor see where changes are necessary. And this all can contribute in lowering A1-Cs. But again, not saying it's a sure-fire way but definitely close.
