I have plenty to get me by until I figure out how I am going to do this. I did ask her if there was a trick to getting the bubbles out of the med Tronic reservoirs. She did admit that the med Tronic ones do get more bubbles then other cartridges do, but she did not have any tricks for getting them out except for being able to see the bubble and pushing the bubbles back out. I will work on finding a solution to this, since I really don’t want to bother my kids to fill my cartridges. I am hoping my pharmacist might consider doing it. They are a compounding pharmacy, so they might just do it. I will keep you all posted.

When you do the rapid pushing in of the plunger, if you hold it near your ear, you'll hear the sound of air bubbles if there are any. No additional tapping of the cartridge is necessary. This is what Ed Bryant advised when most people were using syringes for insulin injections.
>>>> As for the differences, I sure don't know what it is, but I do know that Animas was the king of no air bubbles in the cartridges. It was pretty hard to get bubbles in those. I also know that it is crucial to go straight when you're filling and man, the older pumps came with nice little fitments that helped hold the vial and cartridge together, making it easier to go straight. My hubby made one for me which I use for my Omnipod. I'd never get its syringe filled without it.
>>>> To your other question, Eileen, I used to use one cartridge per week as well. I'd just change my cannula every two or three days. Back on the insulin-pumpers email list, we used to have art competetions for all that leftover tubing we all had. But this method is way easier than trying to partially fill a cartridge. I know Medtronic has always discouraged this but hey, their profits, right?
>>>> Also, I know that the Medtronic tubing is a bit different and is more prone to insulin sticking to it, more sensitive to air and more prone to clogging if you don't use much insulin. So I do hope all of you can get that cartridge-filling service if you want it.

On the other hand, that doesn’t make much sense, since many trainers have said you can have a bunch of them filled in advance ready to use. Maybe that’s because they would be refrigerated until ready to use.

Literally every step you mention is how I've always filled a cartridge, but with these Medtronic ones, air bubbles have been a huge problem. It's why I prefer sighted people to fill several at once for me so I have about a month's supply on hand. But they struggle as much as I do, they just obviously can double check visually there are no air bubbles once they finally get a good draw, which usually takes several tries.

Leaving the bottle & reservoir connected, I snap the reservoir compartment with my index finger several times to knock any bubbles up to the top. Then I push the plunger to partially push back any air into the bottle. Then I slowly redraw up the full amount I need. After this I take the reservoir off the bottle. I’ve had people check my work many times and they’ve always told me I do a really excellent job at it. I don’t know, maybe there are some times when there is air, but I think I more often than not get a good and clean draw.

They have to frequently plunge insulin back into the vial and try again. The second you pull back on the plunger, air bubbles erupt into the cartridge. My nurse educator even warned me about this when I first trained on the pump. I don't know why this is or why other cartridges were easier to fill, but it's definitely not just a blind thing, at least according to the several people who have helped me. Like I said, because of this, I really don't want to fill a cartridge on my own and basically have a wasted 300 mls of insulin when my pump starts alarming because of air in the cartridge and tubing. I just have someone come over once a month and fill several for the month. A single cartridge last me about 7 ddays, so filling 4 at a time last me a while.

Kudos for anyone, sighted or blind, who fills Medtronic's cartridges with ease, but that's not been my experience so far.

> http://nfbnet.org/mailman/options/diabetes-talk_nfbnet.org/jamielgurganus%40gmail.com my pharmacist suggested that she try, but it was the powers above her that said she couldn’t. I am going to try other pharmacies around here before giving up! I also am checking with Humana‘s pharmacy to see if they might do something like that. I am pretty sure I am going to switch to having their pharmacy fill the rest of my medications. They seem to be less expensive than at least the one that I use now. I will be making a lot of phone calls tomorrow!
