[Diabetes-Talk] Best Sensor Placement

Michael, 

When I put my first sensor on in my Endocrinologist's office I put it on my thigh. My Certified Diabetes Educator also told me it was only FDA approved for the abdomen. However, she told me I could also use my upper arm or thighs as well. I have tried all these areas but I ultimately prefer  the abdomen because the adhesive holds better on my skin.

The Dexcom is only FDA certified to be placed on the abdomine. Lots of people put the sensors other places, but I don't. I'm not very good at telling that fib to tech support. <grin> In addition, for me that's the easiest place to do it.
The correct name is overpatch for the patches that help keep the sensor on. I really like them.

     I only place my sensor on my abdomen.  I don't have issues with it coming off very often.  If some of the tape starts to lift, I put a bandaid over it.  Like Bridget said, you can call tech support and ask for the overlays.  I've never used them, but I understand they are very helpful.  Also, I thought the sensor could only be placed in the abdomen.  I know the new Libre is only to be placed on the arm, and I thought the Dexcom was only to be placed in the abdomen.

Michael D. BarberOkay, so now I’m getting very frustrated.  I have placed the DexCom G6 on various places on my upper arm and now just below the rib cage, but no matter how hard I try, the thing gets wet or somehow gets bumped and displaced, which means another  sensor.  Has anyone ever thought of the top of the thigh?  And what do you call those extra strips you can get to hold this confounded thing on anyway?
