[Diabetes-Talk] Things to drink

I’m with Veronica. I’m not a big fan of artificial sweeteners myself. I actually flavor my water with just a very few drops of straight lemon or lime juice. You can actually buy it in these neat little bottles that all you have to do is squeeze them for just a couple drops in your water. This way, you don’t have to worry about pouring too much out of the open neck of the bottle. You don’t need much. Believe me. But, I actually find it quite refreshing.

> Maybe I'm alone here but I just can't stand the taste or the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners. Frankly, if I want to sweeten tea, I use so little sugar that for me, it makes no difference. The cynic in me is just waiting for that time in 20 years when we find out that all the chemicals in Splenda cause cancer. Not criticizing any of you, of course. It's just me. <grin> There are some teas I drink with nothing added though. I find that if I do drink something with some carbs, it seems to do less damage if I drink it with food. But I agree it all adds up and we need to pay attention to that total daily count.

I am able to drink the Lipton Pure Leaf bottled tea even though its not a decaf beverage. I get the unsweetened variety, but you could add a bit of stevia or splenda sweetener to it.

Also, I’ve turned to some of the Meo brand water enhancers that aren’t the purest ingredients, but they give a nice taste to my water and they don’t add sugar. I just squeeze the bottle to put a few drops into my glass & stir it in. The water enhancers come in all types of flavors too.
