[Diabetes-Talk] Question to you, who has the Dexcom G6

Rick, you only have to calibrate the G6 if you don't enter in the sensor
codes. If you don't enter the codes, it behaves like the G5 did. If you
enter the codes, you only need to calibrate if you feel it's needed. Can't
remember the last time I calibrated. I know I checked once and it didn't
need a calibration so I left it alone. Honest, you don't need to calibrate.

With the G6, it is replaced every 10 days. Finger sticks are same as G5 and
this is two finger sticks daily to calibrate. I do not believe any of these
CGM devices text your phone. The receiver, not needed if you use the
application on/with your I-phone. Either have your finger stick records set
within activities inside the phone application or simply create a spread
sheet and email these records to your doctor. Dexcom wants you to continue
using your G5 until out of warrantee but worry not, if your doctor
prescribes it and states why, Medicare will get the G6 for you.

Just to clarify as I believe there is a bit of cross over here with the G5 &
G6. Both of them test your blood sugar every 5 minutes and with the G5 I
was told during my training that I needed to test my blood twice a day
roughly 12 hours apart and you need to enter the BS Levels into the phone or
box that came with it that does not speak to you. It didn't text message me
too much and that is why I stopped using it. The IPhone and I believe the
other smart phones they have made it to work on. One thing the distributer
asked me was if I used the unit that came with the pump or if I used just
my IPhone. They told me if I was using that little box that receives the
medication that I would have to wait until that was out of warrantee which
is 5 years from the time you get it. I told them I never used it as I am
independent and live alone.

I with the G5 had to change needles once every other day. With the G6 they
told me once every 10 days.

I just wanted to know what folks are doing that are using the G6. Thank you
for sharing that information with me Joyce.

The G6 tests your blood every 5 minutes and you either use the receiver or
for those blind, you have it through the Dexcom application on your smart
phone. Your phone will read it to you using the Voice Over on the Iphone,
for example.

You are supposed to test your sugar the old fashioned finger prick way at
least twice per day to know if the sensor is working correctly. I test
either AM or PM but not always both. The Dexcom is normally within a few
points from the finger stick results however as the sensor nears the 10th
day where it is then replaced, the numbers are commonly more off but not
drastically.

Are you saying you don't need to test with the g six?
How does that happen.
I wouldn't know my lows if I hadn't checked it out this morning.
