A third party app can only control a pump if said pump is designed to
communicate with it. Takes more than just somebody playing with a phone.

You can set the Tandem tSlim X2 pump to do an audio bolus where you press a
button and count the number of beeps to administer a bolus without unlocking
the pump. However, some vision is needed to access its menus to unlock it
and change its cartridge every few days. I'm probably unrealistic but I'm
still hopeful that this or some other pump will have an accessible iPhone
app at some point that the blind will be able to use.

Sharon,

Yep, all us blind pump users are in the same boat. A couple of years ago,
Animas discontinued its Ping, and the only pump on the market blind users
could find work-arounds for was the Medtronic 530G. It was in the process of
being discontinued at that time, but people were given an opportunity to
switch to the 530G and despite being discontinued, Medtronic would continue
to support it with a warranty for 4 more years. That deadline has come and
gone now. I've heard of some blind people still being able to get a 530G,
but you will just have to discuss this with the sales rep. But the info
about all other pumps on the market being completely inaccessible is 100%
accurate. No pump on the market has the touch bolus feature anymore, and all
have a screen locking feature that provides no work-around for blind users.
As of now, there's no legal precedence for companies to change the design or
even provide an actual accessible pump. So, as of now, blind diabetics
wanting to transition to a pump are out of luck. And those of us who were
able to get the 530G by the deadline only have a couple more years before we
have to transition back to pens.

I am blind and have been using a Paradigm 523 insulin pump for many years.
I need to get a replacement of some kind.
My endocrinologist's nurse sent out requests to 3 companies to contact
me: Medtronic, Omnipod, and Tandem.
I just heard from a rep from Medtronic. He said he could set me up with a
Medtronic Minimed 530G and he sent me a link to the web site where I could
read about it.
But on the web site they said that sales of the 530G were discontinued in
October of 2018.
This troubles me because I don't know if the 530G is or isn't still
supported by Medtronic.
The rep said that it would be a brand new pump and that it is almost
identical to my Paradigm 523, except that I could disregard all the
information about the CGM that is associated with it.
He said that all later models would not be accessible because of the
unlocking problem.
I called Medtronic anwas told that the 530G was no longer available, so he
would reach out to the sales rep and have him call me back.

I hardly ever post a message here on this list, but I follow all of your
posts and am truly impressed by the knowledge of all of you.
I am now asking for some advice on what to do about this 530G pump.
Of course, I am going to wait to hear from Omnipod and the Tandem before
deciding what to do.
But I would appreciate any advice on any of these pumps.

P.S.: I am technologically challenged so my husband helps me with my pump
and all these issues and he is posting this message for me.
