[Diabetes-Talk] New to this list serve and having trouble using it, need help

Hello Eileen. For you to find anything publicly on our company or our work will not be possible. To not be overwhelmed by those needing and that would be more a distraction, our Board has given me ability to talk vaguely at most and to give details yet, this is simply not the right time. I do hope you can accept our need to simply keep on with our design and focus. Those as another who commented on your note of which I need to not name outright will hopefully accept the same.

Hi Rick,

Just curious as to what the name of your company is? Is it a secret or can you share the company’s name? Can you give us any information as to what stage of design this accessible insulin pump might be at?

Thanks.

Eileen

Bridget, I am telling you that our Company is designing one as we speak. I am telling you we will be bringing one to market as fast as we can and as current to all available technology that is presently available. This is not being ignorant on my side. This is simply you not listening to what I am telling you. We are a Corporation. We have Engineers, Executives and have those from all angels working to offer you this needed product. Simply listen to what I am telling you in my notes. I cannot be more direct in what I am saying other than simply be patient, it is on he way!

Ummmm... Because pumps have been on the market for about 30 years, and we are still waiting for an accessible one. And there's no pump currently working on accessibility; in fact, companies are moving further away from accessibility. We can't even get companies to create accessible meters let alone pumps. So, not ignorant, realistic. No need to be rude or condescending. I could equally accuse you of ignorance.

Are you saying that you believe it is impossible for a company to bring an accessible pump to market? YOu will surely be one to find your so called realism nothing more than pure ignorance...

The Medtronic 530 G is no longer under warranty, and from what I understand, you can no longer get it. As of now, no pump on the market is workable for nonvisual use. Not a single work-around. Now, if you have useable vision and can do some things visually, there might be some more options. But if using vision in any way is not an option, there's currently no pump to transition to. Those of us who switched to the Medtronic 530 G before the deadline a couple of years ago will have to transition to insulin pens once our warranties are up unless a different pump with a work-around magically arrives on the market, but with the popularity in touchscreens and using smart phones as PDMs, it doesn't seem likely.

Hi Patricia,
I think the issue you happened upon was that several people on this list who posted over the last couple of days left their message at the end of their post.
This list is one of the more quieter lists. So, welcome and hang on!
I am not a pump user but I am sure someone on this list will advise you about the few pumps that are accessible.
Warmly, Joy

I have been a member of the Federation for several years but did not know that there were special interest divisions until I took part in the national convention recently. I am very excited about this list serve for people with diabetes and have found valuable information already but I am having a terrible time maneuvering the many pages of messages that seem to come in daily. I thought I was really good using voice over with my iPhone until I started to maneuver this list serve. I see that at the beginning of the emails there is usually a list of messages that have content to follow but apparently you cannot tap on any one of those messages. Then when I do find the first message which seems to be many swipes to the right down there is so much information that talks about how to subscribe, how to unsubscribe, the webmaster and how to post a message that I have great difficulty finding the actual content of the message that the person posted. I use my iPhone and tried setting the rotor to headings but that did nothing to take me directly to the content of each post. Is there a trick for going through the many many pages to jump quickly to each person‘s message?
I have had type one diabetes for 59 years since the age of 11 and use a med Tronic insulin pump which is now out of warranty. I would really love to get the new tandem pump but of course it has the touchscreen. At my doctors office one day I was able to play around with one of the previous models and was able to see the screen well enough to Enter in carbohydrates and tap on the button to deliver insulin. I will never be able to read the smaller print that includes all the settings etc. and even with my med Tronic have to have my husband set up the reservoir and get the pump going each time I change my site. I cannot see the screens on the med Tronic pump except for the one of quick bolus I am hoping that the brand new app that works with the tandem pump will work with voiceover to give verbal feedback as to what the status of the pump Is doing and then I might actually be able to use the tandem pump. I know that you cannot direct the pump to give a bolus from the app but it certainly would give a lot of information that is not visible to me on the pump screen if it talks I can’t even imagine living without a pump as I got my first one in 1997 and take very small amounts of insulin, less than 20 units total per day including basil and bolus and need the tiny increments that a pump provides.
I have been following as well as I could be discussions over the last couple of days on the topic of inaccessible insulin pumps on this list serve and share everyone’s frustration. It sounds like several of you are trying to make progress in making pumps accessible.
