Rick,
First, name a single time I called you a name? And note a single incidence of me attacking you. I have done no such thing. I have merely been skeptical, but several times have stated that if such a pump becomes available on the market, I will be thrilled. You suggest I'm some how against innovation and accessibility, and yet, my comments say otherwise. No one here has attacked you but simply wants information and answers to the cryptic comments you continue to make. That's fantastic if you work for a company working on an accessible pump, but you have not even provided us with the name of said company. It doesn't make a lot of sense. Again, forgive us for being skeptical. And BTW, I'm far from the only person here skeptical and just wanting more information.
Again, us pump users have waited for decades for an accessible pump and have been promised one more than once, and nothing came of it. Again, without any supporting evidence, what do we have from you to make us immediately thrilled at this prospect?
Please read comments here carefully before responding, because I have never name-called or attacked; I simply have stated that I'm not immediately excited at news we have frankly heard before, and I will believe it when I see it. How this turns into a personal attack is beyond me. You are apparently reading what you want to read in my comments, which doesn't suggest a professional demeanor.
Give us more proof of this pump or at least your company and perhaps we will be less skeptical.
Bridgit

Bridget,
I do understand your position. I am no different than you with the same needs going unmet. However, when I tell you that we are working on the answer, not simply continuously beating on doors of those who have proven they do not give a damn, than all I can say is see what has come of your time and efforts. We are working on the answer. We have the team in place and working and if you wish to attack me for not being public when the time is just not here for us to do so, I'll simply have to accept you for the way you are and you will have to accept me and our Corporate decision to do what is right for us, first and formost. Word gets out about our Company, we receive overwhelming calls of support from around the world. We even get calls from those crazy whom have invested into other focus points as with an outright cure for diabetes. We will never call ourselves an artificial pancreas company or our product simply being an artifical pancreas. We will offer a product that will be a delivery system for those diabetics insulin dependent. I have made my comments, I'm so very sure you have made your comments to others on this list calling me all this and that. However, I continue to tell you something is in the works and yet you ignore what I say with outright unwillingness to accept that there is something out there and I'll soon be able to give my criticism for my or your own personal interests but for now, you do not have to accept what I or we are attempting to do to benefit those as you, me and all others on this list needing and wanting such a device. The cost to put this together is overwhelming and the market size is not as large as those whom shop on amazon.com or at Wal-Mart. However, the need is there and I will put my job on the line that those of us blind and diabetic needing an accessible pump will be very proud to use our product when and only when we believe it is ready to bring to market.

Rick,
Okay, you keep posting these cryptic comments about an accessible pump with no real evidence to support your claims. Years ago, Prodigy was supposedly working on a fully accessible pump then completely dropped the project. So, you would not be the first to promise an accessible pump. You don't seem to understand or acknowledge why most of here have hesitation and reservations surrounding your comments. If a fully accessible pump comes on the market and is viable, great, I will be the first to rejoice. But you surely have to understand why so many of us are not quite jumping for joy. Until it's an actual, viable reality, I will hold my excitement. With no evidence to back your claims other than your word, forgive those of us who are not holding our breath for this miracle.

Bridget, I am telling you that our Company is designing one as we speak. I am telling you we will be bringing one to market as fast as we can and as current to all available technology that is presently available. This is not being ignorant on my side. This is simply you not listening to what I am telling you. We are a Corporation. We have Engineers, Executives and have those from all angels working to offer you this needed product. Simply listen to what I am telling you in my notes. I cannot be more direct in what I am saying other than simply be patient, it is on he way!

Ummmm... Because pumps have been on the market for about 30 years, and we are still waiting for an accessible one. And there's no pump currently working on accessibility; in fact, companies are moving further away from accessibility. We can't even get companies to create accessible meters let alone pumps. So, not ignorant, realistic. No need to be rude or condescending. I could equally accuse you of ignorance.

Are you saying that you believe it is impossible for a company to bring an accessible pump to market? YOu will surely be one to find your so called realism nothing more than pure ignorance...

The Medtronic 530 G is no longer under warranty, and from what I understand, you can no longer get it. As of now, no pump on the market is workable for nonvisual use. Not a single work-around. Now, if you have useable vision and can do some things visually, there might be some more options. But if using vision in any way is not an option, there's currently no pump to transition to. Those of us who switched to the Medtronic 530 G before the deadline a couple of years ago will have to transition to insulin pens once our warranties are up unless a different pump with a work-around magically arrives on the market, but with the popularity in touchscreens and using smart phones as PDMs, it doesn't seem likely.

Hi Patricia,
I think the issue you happened upon was that several people on this list who posted over the last couple of days left their message at the end of their post.
This list is one of the more quieter lists. So, welcome and hang on!
I am not a pump user but I am sure someone on this list will advise you about the few pumps that are accessible.
Warmly, Joy

I have been a member of the Federation for several years but did not know that there were special interest divisions until I took part in the national convention recently. I am very excited about this list serve for people with diabetes and have found valuable information already but I am having a terrible time maneuvering the many pages of messages that seem to come in daily. I thought I was really good using voice over with my iPhone until I started to maneuver this list serve. I see that at the beginning of the emails there is usually a list of messages that have content to follow but apparently you cannot tap on any one of those messages. Then when I do find the first message which seems to be many swipes to the right down there is so much information that talks about how to subscribe, how to unsubscribe, the webmaster and how to post a message that I have great difficulty finding the actual content of the message that the person posted. I use my iPhone and tried setting the rotor to headings but that did nothing to take me directly to the content of each post. Is there a trick for going through the many many pages to jump quickly to each person‘s message?
I have had type one diabetes for 59 years since the age of 11 and use a med Tronic insulin pump which is now out of warranty. I would really love to get the new tandem pump but of course it has the touchscreen. At my doctors office one day I was able to play around with one of the previous models and was able to see the screen well enough to Enter in carbohydrates and tap on the button to deliver insulin. I will never be able to read the smaller print that includes all the settings etc. and even with my med Tronic have to have my husband set up the reservoir and get the pump going each time I change my site. I cannot see the screens on the med Tronic pump except for the one of quick bolus I am hoping that the brand new app that works with the tandem pump will work with voiceover to give verbal feedback as to what the status of the pump Is doing and then I might actually be able to use the tandem pump. I know that you cannot direct the pump to give a bolus from the app but it certainly would give a lot of information that is not visible to me on the pump screen if it talks I can’t even imagine living without a pump as I got my first one in 1997 and take very small amounts of insulin, less than 20 units total per day including basil and bolus and need the tiny increments that a pump provides.
I have been following as well as I could be discussions over the last couple of days on the topic of inaccessible insulin pumps on this list serve and share everyone’s frustration. It sounds like several of you are trying to make progress in making pumps accessible.
