[Diabetes-Talk] insulin question

It's not so much the brand of insulin, but the type of insulin. Some are short acting, some ar long acting, and some are longer acting. They all have different names as to which type it is. I used to know by the name when my husband was living, who was diabetic, but I have gotten away from it since his death. It is best to spend some time with a certified diabetes educator who is also a registered dietician to learn about the different types and how they work. Good luck to you all.

It has been my experience that it is dependent on the brand of insulin. If you are on something like Humalog or NovoLog, I have found that it takes about 30 to 45 minutes for an in section of one of those to take affect. However, if you are doing something like human Lynn, it takes at least an hour and a half. It’s horrible stuff. But it’s cheap, and that’s what they give you in the hospitals, normally. However, I am a little snot. So, I refuse the Humulin and I ask my husband to bring in my medicine bag and I will take measures to even call my doctor at home if I have to to let the people in the hospital know that from that point on, I will be taking care of my own diabetic needs. I will then administer my own insulin and other medication accordingly. I will not let them do that to me.
