[Diabetes-Talk] Dexcom G6 off from finger stick

Greg, it's the per centage that matters. So it depends on what your reading
is. If your meter says 100 and your Dexcom says 80, you are within the 20
per cent calibration range that Dexcom allows. I like to keep mine in the 10
per cent range of my meter. Also, remember that there is a bit of a lag
between your meter and any CGM. I also find that sometimes for the first
couple of hours, some sensors may be off a bit but they eventually sort
themselves out. When you calibrate, if in my example of a meter saying 100
and the Dexcom saying 80, when you calibrate, it will change to 90. If you
are way way off, it will usually notice that and make you do three
calibrations in a row, once every 15 minutes. But I've had a majority of
sensors that never needed calibration.
As for having the sensor in your belly, the only thing I'd mention is being
just a bit careful when pulling pants over it that nothing catches. I
sometimes put my Omnipod pods there and even they survive.

Actually, of by 30 or 40 is typical for any glucometer, CGM or traditional.
I wouldn't be too concerned. The average home meter has only a 20 or 30%
accuracy compared to an A1-C. So, 30 or 40 off is standard.

Hello,
Since I put in my new sensor last night I am noticing it is off by around 30
to 40 units from a finger stick. Should I try calibrating the Dexcom G6. It
being off this much is making me nervous.

Thanks,
Greg Wocher
